About Tom Boomershine
Ā
Ā My life purpose is peace.Ā Not just the absence of conflictābut joy, wholeness, completeness, fulfillment, justice; all that creates āthe good life.ā Ā Peace is the presence of love, laughter, clarity and meaning. Itās what we all crave when things fall apart. And itās what Iāve spent my life helping people findāwhether theyāre just beginning to come to the awareness of what really makes a good life, or theyāre walking through the unthinkable.Ā
Iām a hospice chaplain, spiritual teacher, life coach, and longtime United Methodist pastor. Iām also a husband, father, grandfather, martial artist, and story/joke-teller with a soft spot for real conversation.Ā
But more than anything?Ā
Iām a guide.
Not because I have it all figured out.
But because Iāve walked with people through lifeās greatest challengesāand Iāve learned how to walk through it, too.
Ā
Peace Meets Grief
Ā Grief is one of the places where peace matters mostāand is hardest to find.Ā
Thatās why I created The First Year Grief Roadmapāa compassionate, practical and spiritual step-by-step course designed to help you navigate the first year after the death of someone you love.Ā
Itās not a quick fix.
Itās not about āgetting over it.ā
Itās about celebrating what was, facing what is, and finding your footing as you move forward into what could be.Ā
The First Year Grief Roadmap is a practical expression of my purposeāhelping people find peace in loss, uncover meaning in the mess, and even experience transformation through the very thing they thought might break them.Ā
Ā
The Long Road That Brought Me HereĀ
For more than 30 years, Iāve been guiding people through lifeās most meaningful (and often painful) momentsāhelping them discover who they are, why theyāre here, and how to love well and live with no regrets.
Ā My book, After Ever After: Finding and Keeping the Love of a Lifetime- co-written with the love of my life, Winter, was inspired by many other people asking us, āYou look really happy together.Ā How do you do it?āĀ Itās part love letter to the reader, part guidebook, āwritten for anyone who wants a life committed relationship that grows deeper, more fun and more sexy every day.Ā (Just remember: Every day is Valentineās Day!)
Ā That same voiceāthe one that is direct, open, honest and speaks in story, laughter, and joy even in the face of lifeās greatest challengesāshows up in everything I do: in hospice rooms, in online courses, in coaching calls, and on YouTube at Mastering Mortality.
Ā
A Spiritual Guide with Wide RootsĀ
While Iām rooted in the Christian tradition, my spiritual walk has been shaped by many teachers and paths:
- Ā Ā Ā Zen Buddhism showed me the power of being fully present in the moment and the depths of spirit in breathing..
- Ā Ā Ā Aikido, āThe Art of Peace,ā taught me how to stay connected and caring in the face of conflict.
- Ā Ā Ā Conversational Intelligence (C-IQ) gave me tools to help individuals and organizations work together with clarity, connection, and purpose.
Ā And every day, I continue to learn from the people I serve
Ā
The Life Behind the Work
The best thing that ever happened to me?
My wife, Winter.
Sheās the love of my life. Together weāve raised three beautiful and talented adult children, and we now get to revel in the joy of our three wild, wise, and hilarious grandchildren.
Ā When Iām not writing, coaching, teaching, or praying with someone at the edge of life, youāll find me playing a game with Winter, sipping tea, or laughing at something inappropriateā¦or appropriate.
Ā
Mastering Mortality: A Movement Toward WholenessĀ
My YouTube channel, Mastering Mortality isnāt about conquering deathāitās about living the best life you can so in the end when looking back, you can say, āI loved passionately.Ā I lived my purpose andā¦it was really, really good!
Ā If youāre grieving, wondering, searching, or longing for something deeperāyouāre not alone.Ā Because as my pre-teen daughter once wrote me on a bookmark, āNot all who wonder are lost.āĀ
