About Tom Boomershine

Ā

Ā My life purpose is peace.Ā  Not just the absence of conflict—but joy, wholeness, completeness, fulfillment, justice; all that creates ā€˜the good life.’ Ā Peace is the presence of love, laughter, clarity and meaning. It’s what we all crave when things fall apart. And it’s what I’ve spent my life helping people find—whether they’re just beginning to come to the awareness of what really makes a good life, or they’re walking through the unthinkable.Ā

I’m a hospice chaplain, spiritual teacher, life coach, and longtime United Methodist pastor. I’m also a husband, father, grandfather, martial artist, and story/joke-teller with a soft spot for real conversation.Ā

But more than anything?Ā

I’m a guide.

Not because I have it all figured out.

But because I’ve walked with people through life’s greatest challenges—and I’ve learned how to walk through it, too.

Ā

Peace Meets Grief

Ā Grief is one of the places where peace matters most—and is hardest to find.Ā

That’s why I created The First Year Grief Roadmap—a compassionate, practical and spiritual step-by-step course designed to help you navigate the first year after the death of someone you love.Ā

It’s not a quick fix.

It’s not about ā€œgetting over it.ā€

It’s about celebrating what was, facing what is, and finding your footing as you move forward into what could be.Ā

The First Year Grief Roadmap is a practical expression of my purpose—helping people find peace in loss, uncover meaning in the mess, and even experience transformation through the very thing they thought might break them.Ā

Ā

The Long Road That Brought Me HereĀ

For more than 30 years, I’ve been guiding people through life’s most meaningful (and often painful) moments—helping them discover who they are, why they’re here, and how to love well and live with no regrets.

Ā My book, After Ever After: Finding and Keeping the Love of a Lifetime- co-written with the love of my life, Winter, was inspired by many other people asking us, ā€œYou look really happy together.Ā  How do you do it?ā€Ā  It’s part love letter to the reader, part guidebook, —written for anyone who wants a life committed relationship that grows deeper, more fun and more sexy every day.Ā  (Just remember: Every day is Valentine’s Day!)

Ā That same voice—the one that is direct, open, honest and speaks in story, laughter, and joy even in the face of life’s greatest challenges—shows up in everything I do: in hospice rooms, in online courses, in coaching calls, and on YouTube at Mastering Mortality.

Ā

A Spiritual Guide with Wide RootsĀ

While I’m rooted in the Christian tradition, my spiritual walk has been shaped by many teachers and paths:

  • Ā Ā Ā Zen Buddhism showed me the power of being fully present in the moment and the depths of spirit in breathing..
  • Ā Ā Ā Aikido, ā€œThe Art of Peace,ā€ taught me how to stay connected and caring in the face of conflict.
  • Ā Ā Ā Conversational Intelligence (C-IQ) gave me tools to help individuals and organizations work together with clarity, connection, and purpose.

Ā And every day, I continue to learn from the people I serve

Ā

The Life Behind the Work

The best thing that ever happened to me?

My wife, Winter.

She’s the love of my life. Together we’ve raised three beautiful and talented adult children, and we now get to revel in the joy of our three wild, wise, and hilarious grandchildren.

Ā When I’m not writing, coaching, teaching, or praying with someone at the edge of life, you’ll find me playing a game with Winter, sipping tea, or laughing at something inappropriate…or appropriate.

Ā

Mastering Mortality: A Movement Toward WholenessĀ

My YouTube channel, Mastering Mortality isn’t about conquering death—it’s about living the best life you can so in the end when looking back, you can say, ā€œI loved passionately.Ā  I lived my purpose and…it was really, really good!

Ā If you’re grieving, wondering, searching, or longing for something deeper—you’re not alone.Ā  Because as my pre-teen daughter once wrote me on a bookmark, ā€œNot all who wonder are lost.ā€Ā
